Coming Ireland
We understand there is a lot to remember when organizing an internship abroad. In order to make it as easy as possible for you, you will see some helpful tips below to make sure your internship in Ireland run as smoothly as possible.
- Passport or ID card
Please ensure your passport or identity card is valid for the duration of your stay in Ireland. A copy of one of these valid documents is required by Evergreen Internships to complete your application.
- Visa EU & non-EU Students
For EU-passport holders no visa is required to complete your internship in Ireland. For non-EU passport holders, please with your local Irish Embassy or Irish Consulate for further details.
- Health & Travel Insurance
Check your health and travel insurance arrangements and ensure you have the cover you need for your trip. A copy of which is required by Evergreen Internships to complete your application.
- Travel documents
If Evergreen Internships has organised your flight, email confirmation containing your flight details will be sent to the email address supplied on your internship application form.
- Flights
If you organize your flight yourself you can go on the Ryanair or Aerlingus website.
- Staying in contact with home
To reduce the costs of your mobile phone calls to home, a local SIM card may be purchased in Ireland for use in your own handset. You may need to contact your phone provider, in order to unblock your phone for travel abroad. Emails may be sent from local internet cafes.
- EHIC Card

- Money
As short work placements are generally unpaid, you may wish to apply for some part time work to provide an income. You can also have a look at our PDF "Cost of Living for Students" and our PDF "Managing your money" for further information.
- Internship Dress code
You want to make the best impression, of course, and your clothes say a lot about you! Most companies in Ireland have a Business casual style of dress. It is not necessary to wear a suit every day. However, it would be advisable to bring one suit with you if possible, in the event that the company requests you attend a formal meeting / trade fair / conference or other event which requires professional presentation. Always check with your host company and/or internship organiser as to the dress code for your internship.

- Climate
As an island off the west coast of Europe, Ireland’s climate is typically insular; mild and temperate. Rain falls throughout the year, but is light overall. A raincoat and a sun hat are two necessary items to add in your luggage, whenever you plan your trip to Ireland!
